Numeracy Initiatives

Mata sa Rang is a classroom-based early intervention programme aimed at raising children’s competency in the various aspects of the number strand. It offers a unique approach to extending children’s number knowledge, understanding and strategies.

The programme  provides a framework for individual, group or class-based instruction, which is suitable not only for pupils who are experiencing difficulties but also for average and more able children.
By using the strategies of Mata sa Rang, children learn through the use of concrete materials and simple games. They are encouraged to think hard, discuss and solve problems. The programme is focused towards children in Seniors Infants and First Classes .

Ready Set Go Maths

Ready Set Go – Maths is a hands-on approach to learning mathematical concepts in Junior Infants. It is designed to enable children to develop their understanding of numbers through activities and interactive games.

The key message behind the programme is that children are engaged in active learning and there is an emphasis on the use of language to explain our mathematical thinking, what we are doing and why we are doing it.

Ready, Set, Go – Maths focuses on four main areas:

  1. Sorting
  2. Relationships and Operations
  3. Counting and Recognition
  4. Understanding Numbers.
