Physical Education
Here at St. Patricks Boys NS we follow the P.E curriculum. Each class participates in one hour of timetabled P.E per week. The strands of the P.E curriculum are; Athletics, Gymnastics, Outdoor and Adventure Activities, Games, Dance and Equatics. 3rd – 6th class attend swimming lessons in a local swimming pool. This year we are prioritising Athletics. It was fantastic to see our Athletics team achieve first place in their category at the UL Athletics competition lately.
Physical Activity
Throughout the year we have been working towards achieving our Active School Flag here at St. Patricks. We have engaged in many fun activities and challenges. Our aim is to make P.E and physical activity accessible to all children and ensure that each child is given the opportunity to be active, fit and healthy.
Partnerships
Throughout the school year we are lucky to get the chance to work with various local sporting clubs. Coaches work with our school to help develop the children’s skills in football, hurling, rugby, swimming and athletics.
OUR ACTIVE SCHOOL PROGRAME FOR 2022/23
Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.
The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise them to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.
We are currently in the process of reactivating our Active School Flag Award. Follow our progress through the year here on our website or on our Instagram page .
January 2023
Our ‘Climb the Heights’ challenge was a great success. Each class took the opportunity to ‘Jump into January’ with their skipping ropes. Each skip was equal to climbing one metre. We had great fun climbing some of the mountains of Europe including; Mount Bianco, Carrauntoohil, Snêžka, Musala and Ben Nevis.
During the day each class was given an opportunity to practice their skipping skills. Sixth class were responsible for organising the classes and assisting younger children by helping them to turn the ropes and giving lots of encouragement. This was a day of great fun, thanks to Ms Ní Cheallaigh and the buachailli ó Rang a Sé. 👏👏🏼
